Rules and Guidelines

Before you can join in the fun, you will need a character to play. You may play as many characters as you feel that you have time to play. Simply visit the Casting Office and view the list of Currently Reserved Characters to see which characters have already been taken. Then request the characters you are interested in playing in the Character Request thread.

You are welcome to play virtually any character that appeared on Guiding Light over the years. But please keep in mind that the game itself is set in the present time. So each character should be played as they would be now rather than trying to recreate a moment from the past. If you wish to play a character that died on the show, please try to come up with a reasonable explanation for their return.

Once your request has been approved, you must register a separate account for each character you will be playing. For example, if you were playing both “Josh Lewis” and “Harley Cooper”, you would register one account with the username Josh Lewis and another with the username Harley Cooper.

We suggest that you choose an avatar for each character you will be playing, although that is not a requirement of the game. “Josh Lewis” should use an avatar with a likeness of Josh Lewis and “Harley Cooper” should use an avatar with a likeness of Harley Cooper. You may also have a signature banner for each character if you wish.

Please try to keep the game at a PG or PG-13 level. Sexual situations may be implied or referred to, but should not be posted or described in any detail. We also ask that you keep the use of adult language to a minimum. Such language should only be used when absolutely necessary to the character and/or the situation.

Do not try to control the dialogue or actions of a character being played by someone else unless you have that person’s permission to do so. This also includes seriously injuring or otherwise changing their destiny. The only characters you have the right to control are the ones you have signed up to play. Also keep in mind that no character may be killed off or sent away indefinitely without the permission of the Administrator.

All characters should post in the third person in the role-playing area of the board. For example, if Harley Cooper walked into Company she would write “Harley walked into Company” rather than “I walked into Company”. But if you’re used to writing in the first person and mess up every now and then, don’t worry. It’s not a capital offence.

In order to keep the game moving, please try to post “in character” on a regular basis. We realize you may not be able to post every day. But you must log in as each of your characters at least once every 30 days. Any character account that has been inactive for more that 30 days may be deleted, unless other arrangements have been made, and the character put back into circulation.

If you are going to be away from the game for an extended period of time and don’t want to risk losing your characters, please let me know so those accounts can be put on hold. But if at any time you no longer wish to play any of your characters, simply let me know and they will be put back into circulation.
